Treat the abnormal as the new normal

If a few weeks ago I still have the slightest hope that the virus might disappear suddenly like how it emerged, now I have let the new reality sunk in.

In the press, media is still using wordings such as “Things are slowly returning to normal.” However, what is normal? Normality is a moving target. If we hang on to what we considered normal 6 months ago, we might end up with more frustration and disappointment that will not help with the current circumstance.

Instead of dropping plans in life and waiting for things to return to normal, perhaps it is time to accept the altered reality is here a bit longer. Most importantly, know that a day in post-COVID world is as precious as pre-COVID world if not more so. And act like it. Plan, execute and keep moving. The close-to-zero visibility of the imminent future is the best reminder that what is important is how we spend every present moment.
