Make the unconscious conscious

Second week into “safe at home mode”, I started to notice a heightened awareness of every little things. Every little things I have taken for granted before, now I need to re-examine and re-evaluate whether I am at risk of losing them.

Do I have ample grains? Will I be running out of toilet paper? How about clean water? At the moment like this, the true life essentials jump out, front and centre. The new dress can wait, so do the gold plated earrings I always want.

In meditation, there is a technique called noting. Take notice of the bird singing by the window, the curtain swinging in the wind or the laughter of your neighbor’s children. For awareness is the first step towards happiness. At this critical moment of human history, we are all prompted to adopt this important skill, to make the unconscious conscious.
